This weekend at FBR

It’s hard to keep up with everything going on at First Baptist Raytown, so here are some exciting things that happened at FBR this weekend:
- Hope Network Gala. Friday night was the annual Hope Network Fundraising Gala with dinner, a silent auction, and the main event, the live auction. The final numbers aren’t in yet, but the event has raised an estimated $46-48,000! One big ticket item contributing to that total was a trail ride with our own Clay Withers going for $3,000!
- ROC Volleyball. Saturday was the first game day of the ROC Volleyball season for 4-9th graders. 148 girls from FBR and the community on 16 teams played their hearts out for their first games of the season. Not only are these girls getting training in volleyball, but they and their families are being exposed to the gospel at every practice and game. Continue to pray for this ministry!
- Electronic Check-In. The new electronic check-in system for infants through 4th graders launched on Sunday with an overwhelmingly positive response from the parents. Not only will it speed up the check-in process, but it will improve the safety of each child.
- Decisions for Christ! The pastor preached on “What Jesus Said About Salvation” on Sunday saying, “Once you get it, you got it, and it cannot be removed!” There were 17 decisions made Sunday morning; 15 of those decisions were for salvation. Now those 15 individuals have it and it will not be removed! Praise the Lord!
Are you up for the challenge?
If you haven’t heard, the ROC Fitness Center is having a six-week Olympic Fitness Challenge beginning on Monday. This will be a fun way to get in shape, so grab a partner, pick a country, and get started.
If you are like me you will want to know some more specific details before you sign on. So here’s the skinny on the challenge:
- Choose a partner (someone that will motivate you!)
- Pick a country (check at the ROC office to see what’s available)
- Pick up your packet on Monday, February 8
- Read the goals for each of 4 levels and begin completing the levels
- Level 1 – complete 4 goals
- Level 2 – complete 3 goals
- Level 3 – complete 2 goals
- Level 4 – complete 1 goal
- Win prizes!
Now I can’t unveil the goals until Monday, when the challenge begins, but I can tell you that the goals are all different and can be completed by any fitness level. I can also tell you that there are some pretty snazzy prizes involved including personal training, a month of free membership, ROC apparel, and more!
Not a member of the ROC Fitness Center yet? It’s easy to sign up! Stop by the ROC office or call 268-1527 for more information.
Everybody do the Wave!
Before you get excited, I’m not talking about the audience participation activity at your favorite sporting event, nor am I suggesting we do the wave in church. (Although, that would be fun!)
I was working out at the ROC Fitness Center the other day during lunch when two men rolled in two large boxes, placing one next to my treadmill. Being the curious person I am, I watched them unpack the boxes and assemble the two new “toys” in the Fitness Center.
Meet The Wave.
The Wave looks like a variation of the eliptical, but Dave Bundrick told me the movement of the machine is more like skating. According to the graphics on the machine, The Wave works out the glutes and the various pesky leg muscles that are hard to work out.
Over the last few days, the machines were still being set up, but yesterday I noticed they were ready for business, so I gave it a try. On The Wave, you definitely have to find your rhythm and select the right resistance for your fitness level, but the workout is great. The Wave gets your heart rate up and burns a ton of calories in a short amount of time.
I encourage everyone to try The Wave at least once, but make sure you ask a trainer to show you how it works. It will make the experience more enjoyable and less embarrassing!
If you aren’t a member of the ROC Fitness Center, you can enroll in January and pay no enrollment fee! For more info, check out rocfitness.org or call the ROC Office at 816-268-1527.
